Daði Freyr Pétursson has confirmed in an interview that he will not return to Söngvakeppnin! So that appears unlikely that he will not represent Iceland in Eurovision 2021.
Daði Freyr Pétursson, who was the one of the favourites to win Eurovision Song Contest 2020, has announced that he has no intention of returning to Söngvakeppin. He explained the situation as below;
No, I will not take part in Söngvakeppnin. We have won this competition once and if I went back then you would feel like people would just a pick a person out because we had won once and didn't go to the competition. It would then not come out well for me to reenter and not win the race. I might be ready to compose a song, but I'm not going back to Söngvakeppninn. For my career, this has been a really big springboard, so I can't complain about it much. Now I have a bookkeeper and I am talking to a publishing company and all the record companies are tryting to catch up to me.
Daði Freyr Pétursson won the Söngcakeppnin 2019 with his song "Thinking About Things".
But due to Eurovision's unexpected cancellation because of coronavirus pandemic, now Icelandic team has to make a decision for Eurovision 2021.
Even though Daði Freyr Pétursson's that statement, Icelandic broadcaster RUV has not decided so far regarding to Eurovision 2021.
