The Swedish P4 Nästa competition produces the first Melodifestivalen participant for the Eurovision season. This year, Julia Alfrida was given a wildcard to compete in Melodifestivalen 2021!
P4 Nasta is a music competition program on Swedish Radio P4 and a nationwide talent hunt since 2008 . The goal of the competition is to find new artists and newly written music for the future. All 25 P4 districts participate in the competition where each of the districts nominates a winner.
According to the rules of the P4 Nasta, the winner of the competition may not be the same artist that goes to Melodifestivalen. The winner of the show is decided by a public vote, a professional jury decides who will win the space in Melodifestivalen which is Sweden’s national selection.
On last year's edition, Amanda Aasa was chosen as the Melodifestivalen wildcard, even the competition was won by Tim Lööv. This time, Julia Alfrida won both the jury votes and the televote with her “Dark Doom.”
According to Melodifestivalen rules, she has to write a new song for Melodifestivalen, cuz songs for that competition are not to be released until it performs in its semifinal at the earliest.
On last year, Amanda Aasa was the P4 Nästa wildcard with her “Late” for Melodifestivalen 2020. She placed 6th in the semifinal, and couldn't qualified.
